چکیده

In d>2 dimensional, homogeneous threshold models discontinuous transition occur, but the mean-field solution provides 1/t power-law activity decay and other power laws, thus it is called mixed-order or hybrid type. It has recently been shown that introduction of quenched disorder rounds discontinuity second-order phase Griffiths phases appear. Here we provide numerical evidence even in case high graph dimensional hierarchical modular networks a K=2 model present below transition. This due to fragmentation propagation by modules, which are connected via single links. widespread mechanism type heterogeneous systems, modeling brain, epidemics for occurrence dynamical criticality extended parameter spaces. We investigate this synthetic with without inhibitory links as well presence refractory states.4 MoreReceived 2 December 2020Accepted 21 January 2021DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevResearch.3.013106Published American Physical Society under terms Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. Temporal Griffiths phases.

Disorder is an unavoidable ingredient of real systems. Spatial disorder generates Griffiths phases (GPs) which, in analogy to critical points, are characterized by a slow relaxation of the order parameter and divergences of quantities such as the susceptibility. However, these singularities appear in an extended region of the parameter space and not just at a (critical) point, i.e., there is ge...

Exotic phases and quantum phase transitions: model systems and experiments

The band theory of electrons predicts that any crystal with an odd number of electrons per unit cell must be a metal. However, strong electron-electron interactions can invalidate this conclusion, and such crystals can also be insulators, known as Mott insulators. I will use this term here more broadly: often the Mott insulator has a secondary instability to spin or charge ordering which increa...

Dynamical quantum phase transitions in systems with broken-symmetry phases.

In this Letter it is shown that dynamical quantum phase transitions in Loschmidt echos control the nonequilibrium dynamics of the order parameter after particular quantum quenches in systems with broken-symmetry phases. A direct connection between Loschmidt echos and the order parameter dynamics is established which links nonequilibrium microscopic probabilities to the system's macroscopic dyna...

Griffiths phases on complex networks.

Quenched disorder is known to play a relevant role in dynamical processes and phase transitions. Its effects on the dynamics of complex networks have hardly been studied. Aimed at filling this gap, we analyze the contact process, i.e., the simplest propagation model, with quenched disorder on complex networks. We find Griffiths phases and other rare-region effects, leading rather generically to...

Phase control of excitable systems

Here we study how to control the dynamics of excitable systems by using the phase control technique. Excitable systems are relevant in neuronal dynamics and therefore this method might have important applications. We use the periodically driven FitzHugh–Nagumo (FHN) model, which displays both spiking and non-spiking behaviours in chaotic or periodic regimes. The phase control technique consists...
